Celebrity lookalike finder updates

A dated record of changes to face detection, the reference library, public test evidence, and privacy controls.

Last updated: 2026-10-24

2026-10-24: Selfie-led share cards and refreshed design

  • Rebuilt the finder, results, library, image credits, and reading pages around clear photography and a consistent light/dark visual system.
  • Share cards put your photo first, with a smaller celebrity portrait, a plain result, and a question for friends. Weak matches and public samples stay clearly labeled.
  • Replaced the dense source-text footer with a small watermark and a QR code. The QR code opens the exact public reference sources and a link to try the finder; it contains no uploaded photo or private facial data. Full author, license, source, and modification details remain on that page.
  • Cards are generated in your browser. Saving a card never posts it automatically. Wide and unusually tall photos keep their complete framing; normal portraits may be cropped for the layout.

2026-10-23: Clearer photo comparison and share cards

  • Reworked the finder and public information pages with consistent typography, light and dark themes, and layouts for smaller screens.
  • Put your selected photo beside the closest library result, with the other four matches below. The score explanation, sample notice, and weak-match warning remain visible.
  • Redesigned the downloadable portrait card with clear photo labels, the actual feature score, and complete reference credits. Photos keep their full framing; long attributions are not cut off.
  • Added a preview of the generated card and a download-again link. Cards are still created in your browser, and nothing is posted automatically.
  • Optional usage-count preferences remain available under Privacy choices in the finder footer.

2026-10-23: Reference coverage and clearer evidence

  • Added a searchable celebrity library with sources, authors, licenses, and modifications for the included references. Its people count comes from the same catalog as the finder.
  • Added support for multiple reference photos per person, combined into one prototype so a person cannot occupy several result positions. See the current reference counts and actual holdout results in the test report.
  • Published a photo troubleshooting guide, the complete matching method, and an explicit distinction between automated reference checks and independent user evidence.
  • Added optional usage and source counts with an opt-out, without photo storage, face vectors, or persistent visitor IDs. The privacy policy describes what is counted and how long it is kept.
  • Made weak-match language and first-request waiting messages clearer. A nearest available reference is not always a strong resemblance.

There is no completed independent selfie study or competitor blind review in this release. See the test report for the current evidence and limitations rather than treating a larger library as an accuracy claim.

2026-10-23: Tightly framed portrait detection

A user reported that a clear ID-style close-up was rejected with “no face found.” Detection was updated to examine suitable image scales. Regression checks include large close-up crops of public reference portraits, small faces, multiple faces, and blank images. The fix does not guarantee that every close-up will be detected.

2026-10-22: Initial public pilot

Launched the free, account-free finder on the public domain, with five ranked matches and a browser-generated share-card download. The initial reference library contained 69 public figures. User uploads were processed in memory without application photo storage or training reuse.
